Alan Leech is a composer of works largely for small ensembles, including woodwind chamber ensembles and small jazz groups. He has composed many pieces for flute choir or flute orchestra. He also has written many works for Gamelan Sekar Gunung, which he founded at Montana State University in 2000 and directed until 2011. An educator and performer, Leech is a Professor Emeritus in Music at Montana State University, and was principal bassoonist for 50 years with the Bozeman Symphony. He had previously performed with many other American orchestras. He spent many years performing with various chamber music groups including the Gallatin Woodwind Quintet, Montana Consort, and Bridger Trail Chamber Players. He has retired and is now residing in Buffalo, NY.
